Report: Reds Cut Down By Late Forest Strike
Written by Matt Goodwin on Wednesday 21st October 2009

Only one change was made to the side that triumphed over South Yorkshire rivals Doncaster Rovers at the weekend, with Anderson de Silva stepping in for Nathan Doyle in midfield.

The Reds were on the front foot in the first few minutes and earned a free-kick on the edge of the box. Iain Hume curled a delightful effort towards goal and Lee Camp could only gaze in wonder as it crashed the top of the bar.

Ryan Shotton headed Hume's delivery over before Paul Anderson's reply for Forest was tame enough for Luke Steele to scoop up with ease.

The home side had a chance from a free-kick twenty minutes in, although Cohen's strike smashed into the Barnsley wall.

Forest really should have broken the deadlock through Dexter Blackstock moments later, the striker connected with McGoldrick's header at the far post but could only crash the ball onto the bar.

Another great chance for the hosts fell in favour of Nathan Tyson twenty-five minutes in as the front-man beat the offside flag. But Tyson was kept at bay by a splendid low save from the legs of Luke Steele.

Jon Macken had the best chance for Barnsley in the closing stages of the first half when he brought a fine stop from Camp with an 18-yard drive.

Manager Mark Robins made a tactical switch during the break, with Andy Gray replacing Jon Macken up-front.

Nathan Tyson had another glorious opportunity to give Forest the lead just before the hour mark but he shot well wide of Steele's upright.

Stephen Foster headed Julian Gray's fine cross wide before the latter himself had a tremendous opportunity to bag his first goal for the Reds. Hammill swung in a great ball for Gray to nod home but the former Fulham man could only head into the side-netting.

The hosts hogged the ball in midfield but in fairness it was Barnsley who were creating the more clear-cut opportunities.

With only ten minutes to go Emil Hallfredsson cracked a wicked 25-yard effort towards the top-right-hand corner but was denied by a great save from Lee Camp.

Only a few minutes remained when Adam Hammill raced towards goal only to be hacked down right on the edge of the area before he could pull the trigger. Chris Cohen was lucky to remain on the field as it was a clear goal-scoring opportunity for Barnsley.

Carl Dickinson's subsequent free-kick may have had a Roberto Carlos-esque run-up but the full-back could only fire low into the wall.

It was cruel but Forest made all their possession count in stoppage time as Guy MOUSSI raced onto Dele Adebola's flick-on to slot home past Steele from 10-yards in the 92nd minute.

The Frenchman was cautioned for a second time for over-celebrating with the home supporters and reached the dressing room a few minutes before his team-mates.

Barnsley will take heart from what was a solid, professionally performance for ninety-two minutes, and will surely have all-guns-blazing for the visit of Bristol City on Saturday.
