Bogy - the next 20 goal a season man? It has been nine years since Barnsley last had a player that made it to the magic 20 goal tally in a season, but could Daniel Bogdanovic be the next player to join the club?
During the 1999/2000 season Craig Hignett scored 21 goals for Barnsley in a year that they finished fourth in the Championship and reached the play-off finals, losing to Ipswich Town.
Arriving in late January 2009 Daniel made 16 appearances scoring 5 goals. He played 90 minutes just three times in that period and achieved a goal ratio of one goal for every 199 minutes of play. It was a good return considering he joined from a club that was in the middle of a winter break and he was still to get to full fitness.
This season he has featured in five matches, bagging three of the five goals that Barnsley have scored. His goals to minutes ratio has improved to 1 in 74 minutes. Of course it is unlikely that he will continue that, or else Liverpool will be in for him come January for £10 million, but the overall average for his Barnsley career stands at one goal per 152 minutes of play.
Daniel is a very confident striker and when he came to Oakwell he promised that he would score goals, and so he has. Eight in 21 appearances is easily the best return we have seen from a player in many years. There is no doubt he believes that 20 goals is within his reach this season and there will be few that would back against him reaching the target.
Simon Davey has promised to reward his strikers when they are scoring and we should see Bogdanovic start on Saturday alongside Andy Gray for his Oakwell debut. Maybe this will be a partnership that sets Barnsley alight this season.
