Davey: Reputations are out the window Simon Davey has vowed to be more ruthless in his team selections this season in an effort to make sure no one slacks off.
Rob Kozluk's dismissal will mean he is suspended from Tuesday's home game against Preston and with Darren Moore struggling, there is only Luke Potter as cover with O'Neil Thompson still awaiting clearance.
Simon Davey said, "You get frustrated as a manager and you know this league is going to be tight so when you are one nil down you can get chances, but when you are down to ten men too it makes it more difficult.
"We have got Luke Potter who has done very well in pre-season and played well in the cup against Lincoln City to cover for Kozluk. The other option is to play Mounir at left back but he has only trained for two days.
"Darren Moore had an injection at half time on Saturday so he could carry on in the second half. He isn't as sore as he was between the Wednesday/Lincoln matches so hopefully we can get him on the pitch tomorrow.
"With Kozluk out Potter is the only cover we have for centre back and left back and if Darren is not fit we have no cover. O"Neil would have been perfect to replace Darren but his clearance is not through."
Whilst the youngsters have come in and done well, one of Barnsley's most influential players last season, Hugo Colace, has been on the sidelines through injury and his presence has been missed.
Davey said, "We have missed Colace. No disrespect to Jacob Butterfield who has done very well in the last three games, but you need that experience in big games. He gives an old head and calmness about his play. He is not training and will not be in contention for Tuesday."
Transfers
"All our targets have come through, we have brought in David Preece, Onome Sodje earlier in the summer. O'Neil is here, Hammill and Hallfredsson are all signed up. If and when the Andy Gray deal comes through that will be us done in the transfer market," commented Simon.
Reputations are out the window
Players that are given the responsibility on Tuesday night need to make sure they put in the right performance and make sure they earn their money. I felt on Saturday there were a few that didn't earn their money.
I am going to be more ruthless in my selection process, a little more ruthless with my strikers and every position on the park. If you are not doing it, then you better look over your shoulder, whoever you are, reputations are out the window. Barnsley Football Club is what matters and individual performances have to be better to stay in the team.
