Emil Hallfredsson signs for Barnsley
Written by Mark Stokes on Friday 14th August 2009

The Icelandic and Reggina midfielder has signed for Barnsley on a season-long loan.

Hallfredsson flew in this morning to agree personal terms.

He will have the number 14 shirt.

Reds manager Simon Davey told www.barnsleyfc.co.uk: "Emil has now joined us on loan for the season and we are delighted to have brought him to Oakwell. He has experience of playing at the very highest level both in Italy and with Iceland and will be a valuable addition to our squad."

Hallfredsson, 25, is an Icelandic international and was once at Tottenham Hotspurs where he played a key part in their 2005-06 Premier League Southern Reserve title win.

The 6' 1" winger signed for Italian Serie A club Reginna in 2007, making 32 league appearances.

In March he said in the Scottish Sunday Mail, "I went to Spurs when I was 19 but never got a chance.

"Then I went out on loan to Sweden and played well for Malmo, scoring goals. Scouts from Reggina watched me and a year later took me to Italy from Oslo.

"My experience in England was so disappointing, I just didn't get a chance and would like to go back and try it again.

"Jol signed me on January 1 then 13 other players came in after me. I was the first player in but they forgot about me.

"It was difficult because I had left my family and my club Hafnarfjordur, where I was just semi-pro. I never got near Spurs' first-team and it wasn't much of an experience.

"It was a big step but it didn't work out for me in England. Eventually I would like to come back to the UK."

Well it seems he has got his wish and looks likely to be spending the season at Barnsley and hopefully proving a point or three!
