Liverpool were certainly the stronger team, but Barnsley handled them well and were able to hold on to possession, especially in the second half.
Liverpool's only goal came from the boot of David Amoo, who proved to be a handful all game and was the Anfield side's man of the match. His low shot in the bottom corner of the goal on 25 minutes had Tom Ruslin at full stretch, but his pin point shot was unstoppable.
Before the end of half time Liverpool came close to a second when they hit the upright.
Even though Barnsley never really got going in terms of attacking they did have a lot of possession. The second half was spent mostly in Liverpool's own half, but rarely were Barnsley able to capitalise on it.
Late on in the game Jack Watts came to Rulin's rescue clearing off the line as Liverpool went in search of goal number two.
In the end 1-0 was a fair result and a good one for a young Barnsley side up against some excellent Liverpool players, some of which are involved in the reserve side.
It has been a very long season for the Academy lads having to most times double up as the reserve side this year. Next season promises to be even better as they will soley concentrate on the U18 league.
