Athersley Rec claim fourth trophy of the season

It took extra time for Athersley to beat Wombwell 2-0 in the Barnsley Sunday Challenge Cup Final.

Both goals came in the first half of extra time. Firstly Thomas Harban scored from the penalty spot in the third minute. Just before the end of the first period of extra time Karl Cooke scored a screamer from 25 yards to kill of the game.

It has been a fantastic season so far for Athersley Recreation's Saturday and Sunday first teams having now won the Sunday Senior Challenge Cup Final, County Senior Premier League, County Senior League Cup and last night's Barnsley Sunday Challenge Cup Final.

They now face Wombwell again on Tuesday in the Beckett Cup Final and are also currently top of the Sunday League with three games remaining.

Should they claim those two titles it would mean an unprecedented clean sweep of all six trophies, an amazing feat and a tribute to the club and all involved.
