Barnsley & District Schools FA Under 12's

Barnsley Schools under 12's put on a much better performance than of late to overcome a very strong Bradford side.

Playing with debutant Joe Dickinson in goal the young reds took the game to Bradford from the first whistle and both Sam Maddock and Philip Haynes had chances well saved by the visitors keeper.

Kai Hancock produced a touch of class on the wing, resulting in a free kick 25 yards from goal which James Cooke duly dispatched into the top corner giving the keeper no chance. (1-0)

The young reds continued to attack up to half time but could not break down the resilient Bradford defence.

The second half saw Brandon Meakin and Aaron Bettley paired as strikers and they both had good chances to score before Meakin latched on to a partial clearance from Thomas Dolans inswinging corner to power home past the advancing keeper. (2-0)

Lucas Wilkinson switched to the wing and his effortless running maintained the pressure but it was Bradford who scored with 5 minutes remaining to ensure a pulsating finish. (2-1)

This spurred the visitors on but it was the young reds who seized the opportunity when Phil Haynes broke free and his cross was steered home by Kai Hancock at the far post.

The young reds look forward to entertaining York in the semi final of the Michael Dale Trophy Wednesday 22nd April Kick off 6.30 at Dorothy Hyman Stadium.
