LIVE: Malta 0-3 Denmark FT Welcome to Barnsley One's second International match coverage, this time from the National Stadium in Malta where Michael Mifsud and Daniel Bogdanovic will lead the attack against Denmark. Mifsud is Malta's captain. 90+3: Michael Mifsud makes one last run and looks to be going for goal when a Danish players falls and hits the ball away. Such luck! 90: GOAL Nordstrand scores for Denmark as Malta's defense switched off in the dying minutes of the game. 88: It has been a better second half performance from Malta keeping a clean sheet so far. 85: A good shot from Cohen warmed Sorensens hands as he gave away a corner. 80: Bogdanovic on his own running at the goal takes a shot but easy for Sorensen to save. 77: Malta have a free kick in a great area 25 yards out central position. Cohen takes and it hits the wall. 76: Malta have to defend a corner here. The pacve has been slow in the second half. Much like my own. Larsen has looked the most dangerous player on the pitch and could have had four goals this evening. Jonas Borting nearly tumbles into the ball and into the net but it goes just wide. 75: Back in action. Let me bring you up-to-date. It is still 2-0 to Denmark. Mifsud and Bogdanovic have had some threatening moves but nothing paid off yet. The crowd had thought Bogdanovic scored but it went just wide hitting the back of the net confusing the spectators. The Barnsley players certainly look a cut above the rest but the Danish team is too strong. Where did I go!!!!!!! Technology gone awol.
44: They are not happy here. Should have been a Malta penalty, instead it is a free kick to Denmark and a yellow card to Cohen. 40: Wow! Look at that referee run as he can't get his yellow card out quick enough for Michael Mifsud. 39: Mifsud chases down a ball on its way out, stops it, gets up before his marker and into the box. Unfortunately other team mates good not keep up with his skill. 32: Bendtner goes off injured. Bad news for his Premier League club. Jonas Borting is on for him. 28: Malta have a good shout for a penalty waved away and Denmark go straight down the other end and win a free kick on the edge of the box. 25: GOAL That man Larsen scores another easy goal as the Maltese defense goes walkabout. 20: Mifsud makes another blazing run and when the move breaks down and he is trying to get the ball there is a high foot causing pain for Denmark. Lucky not to get a yellow. Michael has not been feeling well today so will be a hard task to play the full 90 minutes. 17: It's the same debate as with Barnsley - is Bogdanovic on the wing the best place to put him? So far he hasn't got a touch, not his fault, just the play not coming his way. 16: Bendtner takes a run into the box, passed two defenders and shoots into the sidenetting. 13: GOAL Soren Larsen scores for Denmark after Jorgensen played him in space into the box for an easy goal. 11: Mifsud makes a great run into the box, runs out of space and passes to Schembri who can't get enough power into the shot. Best move of the game so far. 09: Mifsud makes an illegent run nearly getting behind the defense winning a corner. Cohen gets a good shot and Sorensen collects. 08: Jensen floats in a good free kick but Harber is first to it and takes it cleanly. 03: Rommedahl's quick play wins Denmark a corner. Malta defend two corners ending in a goal kick. 02: Most of Malta's team play their football in Malta and it is going to be a tough examination of them tonight. 01: Mifsud has got his running boots on already darting down the middle. 00: Play is underway at the National Stadium. A proud moment for Michael Mifsud leading the team out as captain. Let's hope our two lads do well and come through it unscathed. Denmark are ranked considerably higher than the Maltese team and currently lead the group and Malta have just one point from five games. Mifsud has been suffering from a cold out here - typical when you leave the cold weather and move to a better climate - but he will start tonight. There is considerable experience in the Demark team with some Premier League and Serie A players, including Liverpool’s Daniel Agger. Liverpool have a huge following out here so he will probably be made very welcome, but it is the Maltese that we have come to see and hopefully get a good result. As well as Barnsley’s Maltese duo, Sheffield United are represented by Justin Haber in goal who has 33 caps before tonight’s match. The teams are:
Malta:
Haber, Caruana, Agius, Bogdanovic, Dimech, Briffa, Mifsud (c), Cohen, Schembri, Bajada, Pace.
Denmark:
Sorensen, Poulsen, Kroldrup, Agger, Jakobsen, Jacobsen, Jensen, Larsen, Bendtner, Jorgensen (c), Rommedahl. |
