Barnsley Schools Under 12's Barnsley Schools 2-2 Derby Schools FA Under 12's The high winds spoiled a good game at Derby for Barnsley Schools Under 12's who were quick off the mark when Kai Hancock smashed the ball home from 20 yards after Derby only partially cleared a corner after 5 minutes. Barnsley continued to press and debutant Sam Maddock went close twice as did strike partner Tom Colville after good work by Max Phyliss and Thomas Dolan. Derby were enthusiastic but playing into the wind found it hard to progress into the Barnsley half and when they did their attacks were thwarted by the reds defence which included debutant Kieron Wray Hinchliffe. Following a series of attacks Sam Maddock skipped past his defender before forcing a corner which Thomas Dolan whipped into the box and James Cookes header fell for Tom Colville who thumped the ball home 2-0 Derby continued to attack and managed to pierce the reds defence to score with the last kick of the first half. A third debutant Lucas Wilkinson was introduced to partner Brandon Meakin in attack and both had chances to add to the reds tally but a combination of resilient defending, good fortune and a nimble keeper kept the ball out of the Derby goal. Derby continued to press and with wind advantage forced the young reds deeper into their own half and scored an equaliser with 10 minutes remaining. This resulted in more pressure from the home side but Josh Swift in goal rose the challenge and with seconds remaining some how managed to push a thunderous shot on to the post to secure the draw and a point for the young reds. |
